2014 Grant Winners
Canton-Inwood Area Health Foundation Awards Community Grants
(CANTON, SD) The Canton-Inwood Area Health Foundation is pleased to announce that $23,000 has been awarded through the Heart of the Community grant program for 2014.
Recipients include: Canton United Methodist Church, Canton Rotary Club, Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center, Hiawatha Golf Club, Canton Senior Fitness Program, City of Canton Board of Recreation, Inwood Christian School and Fellowship Village.
“Grants were awarded based on the agencies’ ability to promote and advance community health and wellness initiatives,” said Brendyn Richards, CIAHF director.
Canton United Methodist Church received $1,000 to place one AED (automatic external defibrillator) at the church.
A $1,500 grant was awarded to the Canton Rotary Club to create a 10-hole disc golf course.
Dr. Cathy Hennies and Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center received $3,000 to implement the “Walk with a Doc” community exercise program.
New push carts will be purchased with a $1,050 grant to Hiawatha Golf Club.
The Canton Senior Fitness program received $3,000 to continue an exercise program for senior adults.
A $2,600 grant will be used by the City of Canton Board of Recreation to revitalize the Kennedy Park sand volleyball court.
Inwood Christian School will upgrade outdoor play equipment with a $5,000 grant.
Fellowship Village will upgrade several pieces of equipment with a $5,850 grant.
The Canton-Inwood Area Health Foundation was established in 2009 with funds created by the sale of the Canton-Inwood Memorial Hospital, assisted living and related assets to Sanford Health. Using interest earnings only, the grant program allows the Foundation to meet one of its identified goals of supporting projects that impact community health and inspire additional community investments in projects that benefit health and wellness opportunities.
Other Foundation goals include sustaining and improving health care in the Sanford Canton-Inwood service area; supporting Sanford Canton-Inwood, which includes Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center, Sanford Canton and Inwood Clinics and Sanford Hiawatha Heights assisted living, as important community assets; and providing financial assistance for the education of future health care professionals through scholarships and grants.
“We are pleased to be a part of the area’s proud history of community support for health care, while strategically directing investments in health care to important priorities at Sanford Canton-Inwood and toward other community health and wellness activities,” commented Richards.
